About Us

Dr Susan Coetzer grew up in Johannesburg. She qualified through the University of the Free State in 2006 and completed her two-year internship training at Potchefstroom Hospital.

In 2009, Dr Coetzer completed her community service for a year at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. Between the years 2010 to 2013, Dr Coetzer completed specialist physician training on the Wits circuit. She then went on to specialise in geriatrics through Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre and Helen Joseph Hospital. In 2020, Dr Coetzer received her master’s degree, which focused on frailty in hospitalised patients, from the University of Witwatersrand. She also qualified in palliative care from the University of Cape Town.

Dr Coetzer’s practice is based at Life Flora Hospital in Roodepoort, providing holistic care to the elderly, and keeping their families up-to-date about their conditions. She is actively involved in the medical scene, providing training to other healthcare professionals in her field on the needs of the elderly. She also lectures on this topic which she is deeply passionate about. In addition, she was appointed acting vice-president of the South African Geriatrics Society. Dr Coetzer’s primary interests in geriatrics include dementia, palliative care, frailty and healthy ageing.

Dr Coetzer enjoys spending her spare time with relatives, friends and her fur babies. She is interested in ballet, music and gardening.
